The writing table, made after the model by Jean-Henri Riesener (French, 1734-1806), is crafted in several woods of contrasting colours to create fine wooden inlays and parquetry detailing throughout. The writing surface is surrounded on three sides by an ormolu gallery with a recess making space for the user. There is a frieze running below the writing surface, which disguises a drawer at the front below the recessed gallery. Each of the four sides of the frieze is set with an ormolu relief panel of cherubs in the manner of the Rococo-style sculptor Clodion (French, 1738-1814). The four tapered legs of the table are styled as pillars and feature cast ormolu feet, ornamented with acanthus leaves and finished with wheels.
