This fine ivory sculpture is a superb example of Anglo-Indian craftsmanship. The sculpture portrays St George seated atop his rearing horse moments before he slays the dragon. The quality of the ivory carving is especially fine, with the figures of St George, the horse, and the dragon all depicted in a moment of great animation. Moreover, the finest of details—from St George’s calm expression, to the hair of his horse’s mane—have been deftly rendered.
The sculptural group is raised atop an ebonised wood plinth.
