Antique Belle Époque ormolu, ceramic and glass chandelier
£15,000
Featuring a stunning deep blue ceramic accent, this piece embodies a harmonious blend of European design styles that experienced a revival in the late 19th century.
This elegant four-light chandelier combines motifs from various design styles and is expertly crafted from high-quality materials. Such eclectic designs were particularly popular in the late 19th century, a period when artists often drew inspiration from historical styles to create stunning revivals.
The central ormolu stem is designed as a twisted rope, adorned with intricate details at both ends. The upper section features nature-inspired motifs, while the lower section is decorated with several Baroque-style masks. Further reflecting the opulence of the 17th-century Baroque aesthetic are the winged female figures extending gracefully from the stem. Above their intricately feathered wings, prominent scrolls terminate in bobeches, each supporting a deep blue ceramic oil chamber. These chambers are crowned with ormolu pierced burners, which in turn are topped by clear glass lamp chimneys.
The ormolu is stamped ‘EB’.
Blending ornate detailing with refined artistry and incorporating a unique mix of materials, this chandelier is a versatile statement piece. It would make an exceptional addition to both modern and traditional interiors, enhancing the space with its timeless elegance.
