Antique celeste ground majolica jardinière by Minton
By Minton (British, founded 1793)
£4,500
Minton was the finest producer of luxury majolica goods in Victorian Britain, and this beautiful jardinière is an excellent example of their prized work.
This superb majolica jardinière is based on the model “Ram’s Head Festoon” by Baron Carlo Marochetti, a French-Italian designed who lived from 1805 to 1867. Marochetti’s original was exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851.
The jardinière features a spirally gadrooned, blue-ground body set with gold ram’s head handles. Between the handles, on either side, the body is festooned with white garlands of fruit and flowers. The top edge of the jardinière features a green egg-and-dart border, while the foot below is modelled as a ribbon-tied laurel wreath, executed in green and yellow.
