Description

This fine painted and parcel gilt Chelsea porcelain figure depicts a vintager—or a harvester of vines. The vintager stands on a domed foot, from which rises the stump of a tree. The surface of the foot is delicately finished with encrusted flowers and rendered to imitate natural ground. The vintager, who is lavishly dressed, holds a wicker basket in one hand and a posy in the other. The colour palette is bright and vibrant, with pastel shades predominating.

The underside features a ‘Made in England’ mark, as well as a sticker indicating the piece was included in a loan exhibition in 1872 at the “Salisbury & South Wilts Museum”.
