Antique cut crystal and ormolu centrepiece garniture by Baccarat

This magnificent garniture was crafted in the early 20th century by the renowned Baccarat firm. Ever since its foundation in 1764, the firm continuously receives international praise for its outstanding fine glass creations, such as this garniture in Mayfair Gallery’s collection.  

The set comprises two candelabra, a large centrepiece bowl, a pair of medium-sized bowls, and a pair of small tazze. All, apart from the candelabra are of a very similar design, each one standing on a shining ormolu base. Most of the surfaces are cast with flowing floral decoration and the shaped feet terminate with scrolls.

All the crystal pieces are finished with plain sharp diamonds cut, characterised by the sea of diamond shapes. Their size increases towards the outer edges creating a mesmerising effect, especially when viewed from above.  The petal rims add a touch of refined elegance to the design. A prominent star cut motif is crafted in the middle of the bowls and tazze, beautifully standing out against the ormolu base. A pair of scrolled ormolu handles are mounted on the sides of the largest bowl, their nature-inspired design matching that on the bases.

The central stem of the candelabra features the sharp diamonds cut motif, their shapes bulbous, tapering towards the top and with a spreading socle base. Extending from it are five ormolu branches, the central one towering over the rest. The ormolu candleholders are surrounded by cut crystal bobeches. From these hang beads and plug drop pendants crafted from cut crystal.

The crystal is stamped ‘BACCARAT’, and the ormolu bears the Baccarat maker’s mark.
