This beautiful antique French fireplace surround is crafted from walnut and features a host of remarkably carved decorative forms, such as scallop shells and flowers.
This superb French fireplace surround is carved from walnut. The sides of the fireplace are carved with scrolled brackets finished with shell and floriate motifs, such as grasping acanthus leaves and draped floral sprays. The centre of the fireplace is superbly carved with a large scallop shell surrounded by a host of floral sprays, all rendered in high relief. The curved interior edge of the fireplace is moulded with a continuous lip, and the piece is surmounted by a flat mantel piece.
