Antique French Louis XVI style ormolu clock set

The clock set is comprised of a central clock and a pair of flanking candelabra, all of which have been crafted from ormolu (gilt bronze).

The clock stands on a rectangular base, which is edged with a band of laurel leaves, and set on eight toupie feet. The base is mounted at its centre with a panel, decorated with a scrolled foliate motif. A waisted plinth stands on the base and is topped by a circular white enamel clock dial. The dial features Roman Numerals and Arabic Numbers, and is set within an ormolu case. This is flanked by two leafy scrolled forms, which are draped with foliage swags. The circular case is surmounted by sculptural crossed cornucopias, overflowing with ripe fruit and grain. Crowning the clock case is a classical twin-handled urn, topped by pointed lid with a pinecone finial.

On either side of the clock are two candelabra, which are of similar design. These stand on rectangular bases, each placed on four toupie feet. The candelabra stems take the form of plinths, which are buttressed by scrolls, draped with festoons. Classical urns top the stems, and from these develop the branches that carry the lights. Each candelabrum holds seven lights, composed of leafy drip-pans and urn-shaped capitals. In each piece, six of the branches are scrolled and vine-like, and one directly tops the stem, its base decorated with pinecone finials.
