This three piece clock set is a charming piece of French Neoclassical design, comprising of a central clock and a pair of flanking vases, and dating from the 19th century with a later malachite veneer.
The clock is formed with an enamel dial at the centre, set within a frame and positioned on a malachite base, supported by elegant toupie feet. Standing either side of the clock face are two gold putti, one of whom blows a horn, and the other casually holds a musical triangle. A miniature antique gilt bronze vase, with handles formed of classical female busts, tops the clock face, and is itself surmounted by an acorn finial.
The clock is flanked by a pair of classical, twin-handled vases which are supported on malachite pedestals, similarly raised up on ormolu toupie feet. These vases are decorated in a similar way as the central vase, with an imitation of Roman relief carving. The scenes depicted focus on the subject of classical heroism, a popular theme in Neoclassical art.
