Description

The antique figure, full of grace, movement, and life, is the work of Hippolyte Francois Moreau (1832-1927), the second son of Jean-Baptiste Moreau and brother of Auguste and Mathurin Moreau, all of whom were highly revered for their sculptures in France in the 19th Century. It depicts a full length standing female figure in draped clothing, shown with a basket of flowers hung around her side. The figure is shown looking down, away from the viewer, in an alluring, sensual pose.

The circular plinth has been wonderfully cast to show further flowers and foliage by the figure's feet, and is stamped with a maker's mark reading 'Hte Moreau'.
