Crafted entirely from porcelain, the centrepiece is comprised of a bowl, which is supported on four gilt feet, set on a circular base. This base has been delicately hand-painted with a colourful flower wreath, and its edge gilded. The base is mounted, at its centre, with a gilt stem, cast as a cluster of acanthus leaves. This, with the four feet, raises the bowl off the base. The monopodia supports take the form of classical semi-nude mythological women, each with two outstretched wings, and a half-length body supported on a single lion’s foot.
Above, the bowl is decorated with intricate paintings of pairs of reclining cherubs, framed by flowers. These are painted against white grounds, within parcel gilt Sèvres style ‘bleu celeste’ borders. The blue mouth of the bowl is mounted with gilt lion heads, holding ormolu (gilt bronze) beaded ring handles in their mouths. Delicate, colourful paintings of flowers, gilding and ‘bleu celeste’ bands decorate the inside of the bowl.
