18th Century Furniture

The 18th century saw three of the most celebrated periods in the history of the decorative arts: the late Baroque under Louis XIV, the flourishing of the Rococo under Louis XV, and the birth of the Neoclassical under Louis XVI, a trend mirrored elsewhere in Europe, particularly in Georgian England. Eighteenth-century furniture consequently refers to a broad variety of types and styles, from the massiveness and monumentality of the Baroque, through the frivolity and gaiety of the Rococo, to the refined elegance of the Neoclassical and the Georgian.

Mayfair Gallery’s extensive collection of antique furniture includes exceptional examples of eighteenth-century furniture from across the century and from countries throughout Europe and the broader world, all of which are listed with further details below.
