Description

This beautiful Indian model of an elephant is carved from ivory in the Mughal style. The elephant, which is depicted in a standing position, is rendered with great naturalism. The elephant wears an ornate gold caparison, which is profusely moulded with foliate forms and jewelled with pearls and precious stones. The caparison is surmounted by a ceremonial bell.

The elephant is contained within a fitted box.
