The 19th Century Italian micromosaic panel is of oval form, set on rectangular black slate panel, against which it is afforded a striking contrast. The mosaic work - exceptional, both in its fineness of detailing and naturalism of the imagery - depicts a lady with a halo sat at a table in an outdoor setting, with one hand over a violin, and the other holding a rolled music sheet. The scene is executed in the bold, brilliant Baroque style of Italian portrait painting of the 17th Century, and uses intense colours and a sense of movement in the depiction.
The micromosaic panel is set within a rectangular ormolu frame which features finely rendered foliate patterning around the interior edge.
