The painting depicts five women and two men on a balcony with a classical balustraded seat. The balcony looks out onto a beautiful view of the sun as it sets on a lake lined with trees. Three women are seated, one man stands behind the balustrade and one before it, the latter accompanied by two women. The figures’ attention is directed at the woman in red, who is positioned centre-left. The figures depicted wear elaborate 18th-Century style costumes which are made from sumptuous velvet and silk, with fine lace trims and feather plumes in hats. The figures are outlined in gold, highlighting the lavishness of their costumes. Short, well-blended strokes of paint have been employed to render the scene, so that the figures and their environment appear highly naturalistic. The painting is indistinctly signed by the artist in the lower right corner, ‘…Perez’. The enamel plaque is displayed in a gilt metal frame with a green velvet lining.
