Description

This Limoges enamel plaque is set within a velvet and metal frame decorated with acanthus leaves and mounted with floral garlands. The work depicts a Dutch-style scene of a flirtatious seated woman plucking a pheasant while a well-dressed gentleman in period clothing leans over the table and in towards the woman. The plaque is signed on the lower right in French ‘d’aprés F. Roybet’, the sought after 19th century French historical and costume genre scene painter with a prolific career who was renowned for depicting wealthy patrons in period costume.
