Henri Picard (French, fl. 1831-1864) was one of the most highly revered bronze-workers of the 19th Century, and it is his fine work which has gone into this elegant side table, epitomizing the beautiful Louis XVI style of design.
The table is of rectangular form and topped with a sheet of green, veined marble, bordered in a band of ormolu. Below the top, the wooden edges of the table are mounted with scrolling ormolu friezes centred to the front with a Classical style frieze depicting cherubs and putti amongst clouds. A further scrolling ormolu mount is set below the frieze. The table stands on four tapered, fluted legs with ormolu capitals and gilt highlights, joined by a curved stretcher with a central ormolu urn. The bronze mounts are stamped to the reverse 'HPR' for Henri Picard.
This table is beautifully proportioned and features fine detailing, making it a luxurious and refined addition to any well-appointed interior.
