The snuff box is made from black marble and is of rectangular shape. It is hinged to the back, and the box opens to reveal an interior which is mounted with gilded silver. The exceptionally fine Italian micromosaic panel, dating from the early 19th century, is set to the top of the box within a silver gilt frame. It takes a rectangular shape and depicts a hunting scene, in which four beagles are attacking a stag which is trying to escape, all in a landscape setting.
