Antique Orientalist style French gilt bronze mantel clock
£7,500
This fine and highly detailed French gilt bronze mantel clock in the Orientalist style features an unusual and charming depiction of a seated Eastern nobleman.
The ormolu mantel clock is set on a rectangular base, on four round feet, each of which is fronted with an ormolu mask. The base features Arabesque and shell decorations, and there is a solid ormolu plinth above. The middle section of the plinth features further acanthus leaf and Arabesque decorations. To the top there is a circular ormolu dial with Roman numerals, set between the legs of a chair, on which a figure of an Oriental nobleman is shown sitting. The mustachioed figure is shown in typical dress of the period, with finely detailed robes, a turban and sword. There is an incense burner to one side of the clock case, and the rectangular plinth on which the model is set features further arabesque decorations.
