Description

This fine patinated bronze portrait bust is by the celebrated Belgian sculptor Georges van der Straeten. The bronze bust takes as its subject a young woman: with her head twisted to the right, the woman glances slightly to her left; she wears a headpiece, from beneath which her locks of hair can be seen. The bust is raised on a veined green marble columnar plinth, which is set atop a square marble base above an ormolu foot. The reverse of the bronze bust is signed ‘G. van der Straeten’ and is marked with the foundry seal ‘Société des Bronzes de Paris’ as well as the monogram and number ‘CB 1031’.
