Description

The porcelain huqqa (or hookah) features a bell-shaped base, topped by a cylindrical partially ribbed stem with a slightly flared edge. This is covered by a top piece which is composed of a waisted and knopped stem, surmounted by a cup-shaped form. The huqqa is painted white and is finely decorated with deep blue stylised leafy vines. The base and the top of the huqqa are further ornamented by half-length portraits of the Qajar kings of Persia, Naser al-Din Shah (reigned 1848-1896) and Mozaffar al-Din Shah (reigned 1896-1907). Those on the base are set within gilt scalloped medallions. The huqqa's top also features a Persian inscription.
