Description

The mantel clock takes the form of a porcelain shield which is set on an easel-shaped ormolu (gilt bronze) support. The shield is outlined with a gilt band and decorated with a painting of two fully-armoured knights fighting in an arena. They are watched by three figures in medieval attire. At the centre of the shield, there is a circular parcel gilt dial which features black Roman Numerals within white medallions. The top left of the shield is decorated with a trophy motif, composed of a plumed helmet, a wooden jousting shield and lance, a metal shield and sword. The shield is displayed on an ormolu easel support, which includes two crossed spears and a staff topped by a helmet.

The clock is signed in red on its reverse ‘BREVETE S.G.D.G. LEB’ in a shield-shaped profile.
