The egg is of typical form, crafted in silver. The egg sits on three hoof feet, and the body is decorated all over in the cloisonne enamel technique depicting swans, flowers and scrolling arabesques in blues, green and white. The decorations are inlaid with three red cabochons, and the egg is surmounted with a silver Imperial eagle. The egg opens around the centre to reveal a gilded interior.
