The wooden pedestal features a central column, which stands on a circular base. The column is fluted and the flutes have been gilded. The lower section of the column’s shaft is encircled by a gilt stiff leaf band, and its capital features gilt foliate carvings. The column is flanked by three curved gilt-fluted legs with scrolled feet and tops. These legs are linked to the central column by a stretcher, which is carved with gilt square rosettes. The legs and column support a circular top, which featues a frieze decorated with gilt leaf-and-dart bands and square rosettes. A name plaque reading ‘A. Ruiz, Barcelona’ is mounted onto the frieze. This stands for the Antonio Ruiz Valiente furniture company, which was active in Barcelona in the late 19th Century. The firm was located on via Sepulveda, 205.
