The box is crafted in gold in oval shape, and decorated all over in enamel. The upper side features a central still life scene of musical instruments and flowers on a lilac ground, which is bordered by interlaced flowers and foliage on a pink ground. The edges feature further scrolling foliage on a lilac ground bordering four floral still life scenes, each set on a pink ground. The box opens with a hinge with a wave-form opening all around, which reveals a gold interior. The box is marked to the inner rim with French import marks.
