Description

The lamp is designed in the shape of a mushroom. It features a tapered stem which stands on a splayed foot. The stem is topped by the metal light which is covered by a domed shade with a pointed centre.

This lamp is crafted from glass which has been finely acid-etched and wheel-carved to create abstract shapes and patterns. The lamp is an orangey-yellow colour with brown, red, pink and green details.

‘DAUM NANCY’ is inscribed on the lamp. Daum glass and crystal works was a prestigious manufacturer, based in Nancy, France. The company was founded in 1878 by Jean Daum and was later taken on by his two sons, Auguste and Antonin. The firm were famous for its beautiful glassware which often displayed a variety of decorative techniques, including carving, enamelling and engraving. Daum was particularly well known for its Art Nouveau style work, like this lamp.
