Durenne, Antoine (French, 1822-1895)

Antoine Durenne (1822-1895) was a French cast iron and bronze manufacturer, who was active in the mid-to-late 19th Century. A founding member of the L'Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs, Durenne is remembered for the high quality and elegance of his craftsmanship.

Having been educated at l’Ecole des arts et métiers and l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Durenne purchased a small foundry at Sommevoire in 1847. The firm remained active until 1930 and is notable for its ornamental iron and bronze work, particularly its large cast animal sculpture groups. Examples of the foundry’s high quality fountains, sculpture, urns and other works can be found in several French and British historic parks and gardens.
