J.D. Schleissner & Sohne (German, active late 19th Century)

J.D. Schleissner & Sohne were Hanau's preeminent producer of antique style silverware in the 19th and early 20th Centuries.

The company was founded in 1817 by Johann Christian Daniel Schleissner (1793-1862), who originated from a family of Augsburg goldsmiths. His son, Daniel Philipp August Schleissner (1825-1892), continued the business after his father’s death. Under Daniel Philipp’s leadership, the company began to specialise in creating exquisite silver objects in a historical style, exhibiting at many international exhibitions throughout the late 1800s and into the 20th Century where their works were met with critical acclaim.

After Daniel Philipp’s death, J.D. Schleissner & Sohne maintained their reputation for producing exceptional silverware and continued to furnish the homes of the nobility across Europe into the 20th Century.
