Anton Kothgasser (1769-1851) was an important Austrian glass decorator and enameller of the early 19th Century in Europe. Having begun his career as a painter at the Royal Vienna Porcelain Manufactory, he established his own workshop in 1813 making enamelled glass cups. These were often decorated with finely-detailed landscape and topographical scenes, and quickly became popular during the so-called 'Biedermeier' period of the first half of the 19th Century. Examples of Kothgasser's work can be seen in a number of prominent museums including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
