Garella, Antonio Giuseppe (Italian, 1863-1919)

Antonio-Giuseppe Garella was an Italian sculptor born in Bologna in 1863. Garella studied at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts between 1882 and 1886.

Garella’s work is diverse, ranging from sculpted portraits and bust of important figures to important monuments, including the famous equestrian statue of Garibaldi in Peretola, Florence. Works by Garella became popular throughout Europe and even in Mexico, where he collaborated with the architect Guillermo de Heredia to create a monument to Mexican independence.
