Pugi, Guglielmo (Italian, c.1865-1950)

Guglielmo Pugi was a prestigious Italian sculptor, who flourished in the late 19th Century.

Born in Fiesole, a small town in the Florentine hills, Pugi soon established his studio in Florence itself. Pugi continued to work in Florence for the entirety of his career, teaching his sons - Gino and Florenze - the ways of his fine craftsmanship. The trio began trading under the name of Guglielmo Pugi & Sons and achieved particular success with the export market.

Guglielmo Pugi and his two sons showcased their fine marble sculptures at many 19th and early 20th Century international exhibitions. At these, Pugi's works were met with critical acclaim, and his creations continued to be highly prized in the present day.
