This large Italian carved giltwood mirror is significant for its painted highlights, which add a touch of naturalistic realism to the ornate Baroque frame.
This fine wall mirror is crafted from carved giltwood in the Baroque style. The mirror itself is rectangular in form and is set into a foliate moulded giltwood frame. The frame is further set into a large and elaborate openwork structure resembling a rocaille: scrolling acanthus leaves and sheaves of wheat form the outer borders, with vines laden with bunches of painted grapes set amidst the scrolls. The mirror is surmounted by an elaborate painted rosette, set within acanthus leaves and topped with a winged putto.
