Bloodstone

Bloodstone is a variety of deep, earthy green jasper with flecks of red haematite, which are thought to resemble spots of blood. In the ancient worlds of Greece and Rome, bloodstone was considered to be the most beautiful of the jaspers, and was believed to stem the flow of blood when it was held. The most famous legend surrounding the origins of the bloodstone comes from Medieval Europe, when a story was told that the bloodstone was formed at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, when the blood of his wounds fell onto the dark green earth and turned to stone.
