This beautiful green glass decanter is finely decorated with gilt patterns, jewel-like beads, enamelled flowers and portraits of the Qajar king of Persia.

Description

The decanter is composed of an ovoid body, topped by a knopped cylindrical neck with a flared mouth. It is covered by a stopper with a conical tip. The decanter is crafted from lime green coloured glass. Its body, neck and stopper are finely decorated with swirling gilt patterns, raised gilt beads which imitate jewels, and colourful enamelled flower motifs. The centre front of the decanter’s body features a bust portrait of Mozaffar al-Din Shah, the Qajar king of Persia who ruled from 1896-1907. This portrait is contained within an oval gilt frame which is edged with gilt beads.
