This delicate hardstone flower model is an outstanding example of 20th-century Chinese craftsmanship.
Three types of agate, coloured in shades of yellow, cream, and orange, are expertly carved into petal shapes. The individual pieces are connected with thread-covered metal wire, accented by yellow and orange beads that serve as the flower stigmas. A pink flower enhances the arrangement, its soft hue crafted from quartz and finished in a manner consistent with the other petals.
Slender, elongated leaves are interspersed among the floral elements, carved from deep green nephrite. This rich green backdrop beautifully offsets the pastel tones of the flowers, adding depth and contrast to the composition.
The floral arrangement is housed in a metal planter, ornately decorated using the intricate cloisonné enamelling technique. Its surface is adorned with floral motifs, likely representing chrysanthemums, a symbol of significance in Chinese culture. Soft pastel shades of blue, green, and pink lend an air of elegance and refinement to the design.
Several sections of the planter are gilt, harmonizing with the gold wire used in the cloisonné process.
Of superb quality, this decorative piece would make a distinctive and elegant addition to various interior spaces.
