The bowl is of typical form, with a bulbous body set above three feet and a rim mounted with small twin looped handles. The bowl is crafted from bronze, which is gilt on occasion, including the feet, the rim, the looped handles, and the two circular cartouches to the front and reverse of the body. The surface of the bowl is profusely adorned with cloisonné enamel: scrolling arabesques and floral patterns are set above the turquoise ground, their forms outlined with gold cloisonné wire and coloured with polychrome enamels. The twin cartouches contain embossed Thuluth Arabic script, indicating that the piece was produced for the Islamic market. It is signed underside with a mark in traditional Chinese script.
