This fine glass bowl is a superb demonstration of so-called Peking glass: a form of overlay glass, where glass of one colour is overlaid atop glass of another colour, and the top layer is etched and carved away to produce embossed, relief decoration. The present bowl is of traditional shape, with a white opaque glass surface overlaid with black glass, which has been carved away to produce trees, blossoms, and birds.
