The mantel clock is set on a Rococo style ormolu (gilt bronze) base, which is pierced with medallions, decorated with stylised foliage and set on four scrolled feet. The base is topped by a patinated bronze sculpture of an Asian elephant. The elephant is fitted with an ormolu saddle, carrying an ormolu circular dial on a waisted stem. The stem is decorated with scrolls, lattice-work and stylised foliage. The dial is highly ornate, and features black Roman Numerals within white enamel plaques. The clock dial is contained behind a glass lens, encircled by a beaded ormolu bezel. The case is flanked by patinated bronze scrolls, and topped by a patinated bronze Chinese man, seated on a chair. The patinated bronze figure wears loose clothing and holds a pierced ormolu parasol.
