This superb selection consists of four beautifully detailed boxes and bottles that were crafted for a lady’s dressing table at the turn of the 20th century.
The first item is a mother-of-pearl mechanised perfume holder set on a stone base and held in an ornate ormolu frame. Crafted in the shape of an egg, the holder opens to reveal two small perfume vials suspended on the central column.
The next item is a tall, tiered white opaline glass scent holder. The body, along with the topper, is delicately painted with gilded patterns.
The next two objects are hinged caskets with ormolu detailing. Made of pink opaline glass, the egg-shaped casket is suspended by an ormolu mount decorated with leaves and baubles and surmounted by an ivy-leaf finial. The spherical casket is made of green opaline glass that is delicately painted with gilded patterns. A decorative rim of ormolu protects the outer edge of the box and forms a snake shaped handle at the front.
Wonderfully detailed and finely decorated, these beautiful boxes and bottles would make a tasteful addition to a dressing table arrangement.
