This fine Orientalist painting represents a woman in a typical north-African outfit, standing relaxed, with a small bunch of flowers below where she rests her left hand. Her right hand is raised towards her head and she is peering into the distance, and she leans against a brightly lit stone-wall background, her hair, and her drapery, flowing off of her elegant female figure.
The painting is remarkable for the artistic approach taken. Neither fully naturalistic, nor overtly romantic or conventionally Orientalist, it has a distinctive stylisti quality to it, such that the subject and the setting are rendered with a charming, almost abstracted quality, that elevates it and gives it a great feel of modernity.
The painting is indistinctly signed to the centre left, and set within a giltwood frame. Frame: height 146cm, width 86cm, depth 7cm Canvas: height 132cm, width 73cm, depth 3cm
