This fine Derby porcelain plate is painted by James Rouse, a celebrated porcelain painter active in England during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The central roundel of the plate is painted with a delicate scene of a young shepherdess cradling a lamb as she walks beside an ewe. The landscape setting is idyllic and pastoral. The rim of the plate is parcel gilt and pierced with an intricate latticework.
The painted scene is signed ‘J Rouse’ and the reverse is inscribed in rubbed lettering ‘The Shepherd’s Daughter’.
