This elegant antique porcelain plate depicts a touching image of the Madonna holding the Christ Child, with the composition after an original by Raphael.
This fine cabinet plate is bordered by raised gilt leaf scrollwork on an ivory and green background, surrounding a central painting of the Madonna and Child after the masterpiece by Raphael known as the Sistine Madonna, in Dresden since the middle of the eighteenth century. The reproduction is executed with great delicacy and tenderness, successfully imitating the famed original.
The plate has an underglaze blue crown mark to the reverse and the gilded inscription 'Madonna von Raphael Santio, Original in der Dresdener Jemaldegalleri'.
