Made in France in the early 20th century, this charming piece is a vintage dressing table, decorated with marquetry panels to the upper surface, and embellished with a host of engraved gilt-metal mounts throughout.
It features a hinged top opening, revealing a mirror, and a single drawer below. The hinges are particularly well executed, as are the small panels and arrangements of gilt mounts, many of which are elegantly engraved in small floral motifs.
The upper surface features a large marquetry design that occupies the centre and a large part of the table top. It comprises a bright, sunburst pattern to the centre, a series of four intricate, geometric, fractal designs in each quadrant, as well as panels of alternating black beads in the space between, bordered by various frames in differing tones and shades of wood.
A understated, humble, yet in places highly ornate piece, this charming dressing table will make a beautiful interior addition for those with an appreciation and love of the finer, more delicate, and stylish things in life.
