This elegant mantel clock, dating from the French Empire period of the early 19th Century, is crafted from the timeless combination of malachite and gilt bronze.
This fine mantel clock was crafted during the Empire period, though the malachite veneer is a later addition. The clock is of traditional form, its structure being architectural in manner. The clock features a rectangular malachite plinth form base, set above a moulded ormolu step and raised by four bun feet. From the plinth rises four malachite columns, each terminating in an ormolu capital. The four columns support an ornate malachite entablature, and the circular enamel clock dial—contained within a moulded ormolu bezel—is positioned between the columns, with the pendulum hanging below. The malachite clock case is set throughout with fine Neoclassical ormolu mounts, including ornate pierced palmette type motifs to the front of the plinth and entablature.
