Description

This fine Empire period stool, stamped for the retailer 'Hopilliart & Leroy,' is crafted in ormolu-mounted mahogany. The stool's frame is shaped from mahogany and set on four curved feet which are mounted with ormolu paws. The stool seat is cushioned and upholstered in cream-coloured fabric, and at either side of the seat the main feature of this beautiful work are the curved mahogany armrests which take the form of swans' necks. The bars across the stool are adorned with a simple paterrn, and swans' heads, cast in ormolu, are mounted onto the end of the arm supports, in beautiful spiralling shape set around a floral motif.
