This stunning Empire style side cabinet is crafted from beautiful blue lapis lazuli and is fitted with superb gilt metal mounts—the lapis veneer being a later, beneficial addition.
The rectangular-form cabinet, the narrow sides of which are gently curved, is articulated by a cylindrical column at each front corner, each column topped by a gilt metal Egyptian-style foliate capital. The front of the cabinet features twin apron drawers with twin doors below. The front of the cabinet is mounted with a wide array of gilt metal mounts, ranging from an intertwined vine frieze along the bottom, to the capitals mentioned above, to the assembled spray of triumphant regalia that defines the centre—composed of a shield, arrows and quivers, and various other weapons and arms. The twin doors open to reveal a cabinet on one side and three shelves on the other.
The cabinet is surmounted by a shaped lapis lazuli top, its curving form conforming to the wonderful shape of the body below.
