Description

This fine Empire style chandelier is crafted from brown painted metal and ormolu, or gilt bronze. The body of the chandelier, which is modelled as a Roman oil lamp, issues six scrolling ormolu light branches, with each branch formed in part as a griffon—a mythical beast with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. The bottom of the body of the chandelier is centred with an ormolu mount of splayed laurel leaves, from the centre of which is suspended a pomegranate drop finial. The top of the body is surmounted by an ormolu flambeau finial, below which is an encompassing ring of ormolu anthemia.

The chandelier is suspended by six ormolu chains from an upper section, the top of which is set with a corona of ormolu anthemia.
