This fine side chair is crafted from ormolu and malachite in the distinctive Empire style. The chair features front legs wrought from ormolu and modelled after winged sphinxes—a motif popular in Empire style art and design—with each leg terminating in a paw foot. The chunky rear legs are crafted from malachite, as is the seat rail—which is mounted with ormolu stars and other emblems. The seat cushion is finished with cream upholstery, while the backrest features a malachite frame flanked by twin ormolu foliate columns. The malachite backrest is mounted with classicising ormolu motifs, including profile busts, winged goddesses, and stylised vases. The centre of the backrest features ormolu crossed arrows centred with an Apollo mask within a laurel wreath.
