This striking side table—also functional as an occasional table or a plant stand—is wrought from bright white onyx mounted with ormolu (gilt bronze), the ormolu inset with champlevé enamel. The table stands on a square onyx base raised by four ormolu paw feet. From this base spring four closely positioned, bipartite cylindrical onyx columns. The base and capital of each column—and the ormolu connector that delineates the centre of each column—is formed of ormolu. Remarkably, the ormolu is inset with decorative champlevé enamel wrought into exquisite geometrical designs, the enamel composed of shades of turquoise, dark blue, white, and red.
The four columns support the large square onyx tabletop. This top is edged with a chamfered ormolu beading, the surface of which is inset with champlevé enamelwork comparable to that described above. Moreover, the centre point of each side is set with an ormolu anthemia, a final flourish that further accents this beautiful table.
