Enamel - Plique-à-jour

Similar to the Cloisonné enamelling technique, in the plique-à-jour method enamel is applied into different sections on a material. An important distinction, however, is that plique-à-jour enamelling decorates items with enamel but without backing, so that light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel giving the work a stained-glass like appearance. It is a particularly beautiful enamelling technique that creates an exquisite visual effect.
